Abstract
Discusses drawbacks of flat panel displays which have to be overcome before they can displace the CRTs. The following parameters are considered: matrix addressing, dusty cycle, luminous efficiency, uniformity, grey scale, colour and cost. As the leading display contenders-plasma discharge panels, cathodoluminescent devices, electroluminescent devices, liquid crystal displays electrophoretics, and electrochromics are dealt with.
