Abstract :
This paper analyses a 1-out-of-n:F system with each component having 3-states and obtains an expression for the failure rate of the system with preventive maintenance (pm). A policy is evolved to minimise the total mean pm cost-rate of the system under a constraint on its failure rate. The pm interval of each component affects both the failure rate and total mean pm cost-rate of the system; therefore optimal values of pm intervals of various components are determined by using Lagrange multiplier technique.
