Abstract :
Inflation and low industrial productivity have caused a sharpening of the perennial criticisms to which the engineering educational process is subjected. In the U.S., for example, the prevailing issues are (1) poor equipment, (2) low graduate enrollments, (3) disproportionate enrollment of non-nationals, particularly at the graduate level, (4) low academic salaries, and (5) a need for enhanced cooperation between academia and industry.
