Abstract
For the application limitation of the traditional operating distance model of an infrared imaging system under complicated backgrounds, the idea of probability distribution is integrated into the traditional equation. Background radiance and operating distance are respectively changed from a single variable to a vector, the dimensions of which could be calculated according to the grey distribution of background image. Since infrared radiance of complex background is the key information in the new model, a new method that gets it from imaging grey value by establishing the radiance-grey function is proposed. Finally, an operating distance calculation example shows that the new model can accurately estimate the operating distance under complicated backgrounds.
