Abstract :
An approximation technique that is useful for error rate calculations in ON-OFF keyed lightwave receivers with optical preamplification, Fabry-Perot filtering and post integration, is presented. The method is justified mathematically and is then shown to produce a four-fold speed increase with a very small loss in accuracy. Such an improvement enables optically preamplified receivers to be analysed far more quickly for non-ideal filtering
