Abstract
This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of the spindle motor performance to different excitation schemes. For the spindle motor with a 8-pole/9-slot configuration, an alternative 3 phase winding ABABCBCAC is presented. Simulation results show that the torque pulsation and unbalanced radial magnetic force developed in the motor with the new winding are much less sensitive to the excitation current, compared to those in the traditional 3-phase winding AAABBBCCC
