Abstract
Protection of the environment is achieved by a synergy of legal regulation and engineering solutions. System engineering of processes which may affect the environment has developed in combination with the common law and principles of environmental law. This is demonstrated in this paper by reference to the law relating to radiation and the control of nuclear processes.
