Abstract
The characteristics of gaseous chemical compounds containing fluorine are reviewed. Relative dielectric strengths, toxicities, space charge effects, electrode material, prÿssure effects, and so forth, are discussed. Several explanations accounting for observed differences in dielectric strength among gases are noted and shown to be inadequate for the complete understanding of all cases. A line of attack for fuller understanding is suggested in the considerations of the molecular energy systems. Some possible potentialities of gaseous fluorine compounds in electric equipment are also reviewed.
