Abstract :
The authors propose a compact non-mechanical variable attenuator based on silica-based planar lightwave circuits (PLC). The fabricated variable attenuator achieves 20 dB attenuation with a polarisation sensitivity of <1 dB, a wavelength range over 20 nm, and rise and fall times of <400 μs
