Abstract :
The manner in which electromagnetic delay lines are used for the purposes of number storage, number transfer, the decoding of numbers, and the generation of waveforms in the case of the Manchester University Mark II computing machine is described. Their use in the various functions is shown to have contributed to the improvement in speed and flexibility of the machine and to its reduction in size.
