Abstract :
The basic parameters affecting the choice of a nickel-silicon-iron alloy for use in power-transformer cores have been determined and a suitable alloy selected. A processing schedule has been developed to obtain a good Goss texture in this alloy. An important factor in the process is the relationship between the annealing and ¿-¿phase-transformation temperatures. The magnetic properties at 50c/s of the resulting strip compare favourably with those for materials previously available, and it is likely that in large-scale production still better properties would result. Because of its higher resistivity, the properties of the new alloy become more favourable as the frequency increases.
