Abstract :
A coding method with low complexity decoding is described. The method provides good coding gain on partial response channels such as tape drive channels. The method is based on a product code combined with suitable reordering. Decoding employs soft decision detection on the partial response channel and iterative decoding of the product code. The code complexity is largely independent of the partial response characteristics
