Abstract :
A design method is described by which a number x, in binary code, can be used to generate the binary form of log2x. Unlike earlier methods, this does not depend on an approximation to a linear relatioqship between x and log2x. The mantissa of the logarithm can be generated with an adequate number of bits, without undue increase in the complexity of the system. However, the system becomes more complex when the number of bits in x is increased. The design is illustrated with 8 bits of log2x and up to 6 bits of x.
