Abstract :
A simple method of showing the properties of Lyapunov functions on a video display is described with an illustrative example. A mapping technique is introduced which generates a set of complex numbers ¿ while exploring the state space using a trial Lyapunov function. The loci of these complex numbers are shown on a video display and can be used to determine the stability of nonlinear systems. A simple geometric interpretation of the loci is provided which allows the technique to be used in online computer-aided design studies.
