  • Abstract
There are some basic predictions you have to make that are critical in planning engineering projects: predictions of task durations and staffing levels, for example. Realistic project plans depend on them. And even if you discard realism and decide to set demanding targets you still need these predictions to tell you how unrealistic you´re being, and therefore what sort of risks you are taking. The authors discuss the problems with learning good planning practices and the need for training in this area.
