Images of line charges and currents

The effect of a boundary in the vicinity of a line charge or current is to modify the field in a manner that can be represented by images in the boundary. It is shown that these images can be derived from Poisson´s equation without recourse to fictitious surface charges or currents. The mathematical techniques are very powerful and one purpose of the paper is to draw them to the attention of electrical engineers.
