Abstract
The electromagnetic properties of laminated cores assembled from grain oriented silicon steel sheets with the closer sheets from amorphous material placed among the silicon steel sheets were studied. A decrease of core loss of 4-6% was detected and the exciting current decreased by 20-50%. The improvement of the core performance was due to the decrease of the energy contribution of the magnetostatic fields to the total balance of the free energy of the core and due to the increase of its effective magnetic permeability after the redistribution of the magnetic flux in the corner regions
