Abstract :
The inability of maintenance services to keep a vision system online, along with the multitude of product mix that a system has to inspect, has resulted in unrealized potential in many textile applications. Typical problems have been directly related to programmability, central processing, evolved setup, maintenance, and economics. Although the 1-D linear array vision does not have the capability of the matrix vision system nor the intelligence of a human being performing an inspection, it is shown that it can provide low-cost simplified maintenance and distributed processing in a wide variety of applications. It should be considered as an effective technology for use in textile-plant noncontact gauging and inspection applications
