Abstract :
High-temperature, high-density ablation plasma generated by intense, pulsed ion beam was studied experimentally by using high-speed photography and calorimetry. From the high-speed photographs, we have seen the characteristic behavior of the ablation plasma expansion. The calorimetry diagnostic results have given the total thermal energy deposited by the ablation plasma on the substrate. With the plasma lifetime obtained by the high-speed photography and the thermal energy obtained by calorimetry, the instantaneous substrate surface temperature has been estimated by using one-dimensional thermal conduction equation
