  • Abstract
    New results are presented for the reflectivity of a buried waveguide at a realistic depth incident on a coated facet. Diffractive effects are shown to be significant enough to prevent previously reported two-layer coatings meeting the practical specifications for high performance semiconductor optical amplifiers
