Abstract
A method for the calculation of the solute dipole moment in the concentration range 1% to 40% at microwave frequencies is proposed. It is applied to the analysis of the dielectric data at 9.8 GHz of chloral (CCl3-CHO) in benzene solution. The concentration dependence of the permittivity is fitted by an equation including linear and quadratic terms of the concentration. The dipole moment of chloral obtained by this method is 7.07*10-30 SI units, a value 36% higher than the one computed by the Guggenheim static method.
