Abstract :
The belief-desire-intention (BDI) model is one of the most prominent models for designing artificial intelligent agents. Being relatively simple the BDI model doesn´t take into account several aspects of human reasoning, including the role of emotions. The work presented in this paper contributes to the recent effort to extend the BDI model and its implementations with emotions as defined in the emotional model OCC by psychologists Ortony, Clore and Collins. The contribution has a form of design and implementation of the JBdiEmo engine - an emotional engine built on the top of the Jadex BDI agent platform. In this paper we deal with components of the engine, its basic processes and the way in which it is connected to the underlying Jadex platform. In particular, we focus on the process of the emotional engine initialisation, emotions-related message passing and specification of emotions eliciting conditions in the context of beliefs, goals and plans of agents.
