Abstract :
The year 1950 saw considerable development work in the measurement of thicknesses of industrial materials, which are produced in sheet form, by means of beta ray thickness gauges. This paper describes the principles of the transmission and back scattering methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Typical instruments are described and the errors which may be present are discussed.
