Abstract :
The paper briefly describes the general principles of operation of both mechanical and electronic self-balancing recording instruments. Standard applications of these instruments to problems associated with atomic energy projects are described. These include normal measurements of temperature, chemical analysis, etc., and measurement of radioactivity. The versatility of self-balancing recording instruments is illustrated by examples of special applications involving the computation of several variables. Circuits are described which permit simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, roots and powers, derivatives and integrals. Several arrangements are described which employ combinations of the above circuit elements to solve special problems associated with nucleonic projects.
