Abstract :
Battery energy systems are an electric utility technology whose applications are not yet fully demonstrated. The applications and benefits achieved by existing and planned facilities, and those that are possible, are discussed. The performance of existing facilities and the benefits predicted by models show that battery energy systems can be an economically attractive addition to the equipment now used to generate and transmit electric power
