Abstract :
The increasing connection of photovoltaic generators (PVs) and new forms of loads into the low voltage (LV) distribution networks may lead to unpredictable voltage problems. This paper investigates a number of existing voltage control techniques for the LV networks in the UK and assesses their ability to maintain the voltage regulation. The voltage control equipment investigated includes the On Load Tap Changer (OLTC) transformer, the capacitor bank and the energy storage device. The load flow studies are carried out for several LV network models with different PV penetrations. The results will help network operators to make decisions on which are the more suitable devices to be used in order to prepare for the change in future load demand.
