Abstract
An optical fiber act as a frequency dependent transmission system with linear(wavelength dependent) and non linear(intensity/power dependent) effects. Cross-phase effect (XPM) is a non linear effect where wave of light can change the phase of another wave of light with different wavelength. This effect causes spectral broadening. Phase and frequency chirp, the EDFA induce to a multi wavelength information source for different length of EDF over C band has been studied, based on this it was found that XPM increases with the increase of EDF length upto an optimum length for channels less than or equal to 1530nm.
