Abstract
A detailed description of a picosecond pump-probe optoelectronic pulsing (generating electromagnetic transients in free space) and sampling system is presented. This system will be used for spectroscopy in a [10-100]-GHz range of materials such as semiconductors. The signal-to-noise ratio obtained in this system is greater than 40 dB and the time resolution can be less than 500 fs, thereby permitting studies of very fast, low-amplitude transient phenomena. For microdevices separated by 5 cm an E peak field amplitude of 80 V/m is detected
