Abstract :
The effect of Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) to the performance of a full-duplex bi-directional link is studied. EVM is modelled as independent Gaussian noise, which is sent together with the original signal by the transmitter. A simplified self-interference cancellation model at the full-duplex receiver is considered. It suppresses the self-interference via three-stage processing. The stages are antenna isolation, RF cancellation and digital baseband cancellation. It is assumed that the self-interference caused by the EVM noise can be suppressed only by the first two stages. The self-interference caused by the original signal can be also suppressed by baseband processing because it can be estimated in digital baseband of the receiver. The analysis is performed by comparing the rate regions and the transmission power efficiencies of the corresponding half-duplex and full-duplex links.
