Abstract :
The operation and performance of different decoder filters are outlined. Possible pre- and postfilter combinations are discussed generally and illustrated by various examples. Emphasis is on the PAL system, since filter techniques for PAL are much more complicated. The knowledge gained by the consideration of filtering PAL signals can be applied also the the NTSC system, but in a simpler form. Examples of filter characteristics are given in the vertical-temporal frequency plane
