Abstract
Commercial electromagnetic analysis software can be used for optimal shape design with continuum design sensitivity analysis method since the continuum approach is a nonintrusive method. To simulate the externally forced magnetic field, two types of conditions - constant flux and constant current - are usually used. To demonstrate that the constant flux and constant current conditions produce very different designs, a direct comparison of optimal shape design using the continuum approach is presented in this paper.
