Abstract
This paper proposes a decomposition of periodically time-varying systems in an attempt to reduce the often overwhelming number of modeling parameters involved. In many cases it would be possible to represent the system using only a few of those components. An a priori bound on the approximation error is derived in terms of the smoothness of the system parameters. Both continuous and discrete-time systems are considered
