Abstract
The current Internet architecture with integrated routing and forwarding planes has served the community well for the past three decades. The significant growth in Internet traffic and the need for support of very diverse sources has spurned research interest in new architectures. In particular, the next-generation Internet must cater to a variety of services with dynamically changing traffic demand and it is critical that it supports various quality of service (QoS) measures, to efficiently utilize network resources and to reduce operational costs.
