Abstract :
An open approach to graphic arts and prepress information exchange called constructive page description (CPD) is described. An existing approach for the exchange of continuous tone picture and line art data between electronic prepress systems called the Digital Data Exchange Specification (DDES) is examined, and its deficiencies are revealed. The goals of the CPD approach and its basic concepts are outlined. Viewing CPDs as directed graphs is discussed and data types and operations, data organization, and the evaluation mechanism are considered. The application of CPD is discussed.<>
