Abstract :
Previous switched model-based coders have employed switching techniques at a high level, switching the entire frame between an H.261 coded image and a model-based image according to a bitrate/quality metric. The performance of a new scheme, in which the switching takes place in selected regions, is reported. Subjective quality and PSNR are improved, particularly for large rotational or translational motion
