Abstract :
A 1-D analytical technique for predicting the airgap magnetic field distribution and the time-averaged thrust of long primary double-sided linear induction motor (LP-DSLIM), taking account both fundamental and entry end effect component, has been developed. The analytical results are compared and validated by the predictions from corresponding finite element analyses. The end effect-related attenuating constant and thrust ratio factor are investigated as the functions of the motor design parameters, which involve the airgap length, secondary thickness and conductivity, frequency, and pole pair numbers. The corresponding measures to alleviate the end effect at high speed are given. The method allows the assessment of the end effect and helps guide the design procedure for LP-DSLIM.
