Abstract
The efficient use of energy, and in particular electrical energy, is a priority in every developed nation. Engineers are always looking for ways of improving conversion efficiencies in a wide range of engineering processes. One area for potential energy saving is the electric motor, which accounts for around 70% of industrial power consumption. But how can you accurately measure its efficiency in practical situations? The effects of the influencing factors on the motor efficiency are described in detail, using representative numerical examples. The factors discussed are load dependency, temperature dependency, voltage amplitude, and line supply quality.
