Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive comparison of the performance of asymmetrically driven voltage-source and current-source dual active half-bridge dc-dc converters. The different possible modes of operation are introduced followed by a comparison of the topologies with respect to their active power output and zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) performance. Optimal control strategies for both types of converters are presented, which minimize the rms current of the transformer, while ensuring ZVS operation. Experimental results on a 250 W laboratory prototype are presented, which validate the discussed ideas.
