Abstract :
During the shortages immediately following World War I, a few electricity supply undertakings in the UK installed diesel engines and generators removed from German submarines surrendered under the Naval Armistice in 1918. This article attempts to review the varying degrees of success achieved by these plants. In particular the article discusses the use of such engines at Southend-on-Sea, Loughborough College, York, Harrogate, and Newcastle-under-Lyme
