Abstract :
The paper discusses safety analysis of a health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) for a modern helicopter (rotorcraft). Using a Flight Regime Monitoring System as an example of a HUMS, its hazard analysis is done first, followed by safety analysis using fault trees. This leads to a more thorough safety analysis, having application in system certification. The focus is on differences in certification of a system not directly related to the aircraft operation but having still important impact on the flight safety and aircraft system resilience.
