Militarization: Peace or war?

While the news media were pinning the label “Star Wars” on President Ronald Reagan´s proposal last March 23 to step up research on ballistic-missile defense, the United States military was slipping quietly into a new era in space. The turning point was a largely unheralded change that had occurred six months earlier beneath Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado.
