The pride of France: A national commitment

In the early eighteenth century when global politics were primarily controlled by the big European powers, a French philosopher with a special interest in politics asked facetiously, “How can one be Persian?” Two and a half centuries later, with the United States and the USSR dominating activity, that philosopher might ask, “How can one be French?”
