Abstract :
A field-installable single fibre connector has been developed, which uses mechanical splicing techniques and is compatible with the SC-type optical fibre connector. Its average assembly time and insertion loss are <3 min and <0.3 dB for singlemode (SM) fibre and <0.1 dB for graded-index (GI) fibre, respectively. The transmission and mechanical characteristics are confirmed to be stable
