Abstract :
A light-to-light transducer with a very high optical gain of -6*10/sup 15/ and high sensitivity with a minimum detectable power of 7 nW has been achieved by the direct and vertical integration of a heterojunction phototransistor and a laser diode and by the utilization of internal optical feedback. The device can be utilized as a very sensitive sensor which can emit a large optical output. It will also be a key device for future optical signal processing and optical computing.<>
