Abstract :
Based on information-theoretic principles, fundamental guidelines for signal processing systems design are developed. Conventional systems figures-of-merit do not effectively consider these basic metrics. The issue in the design of real-time signal processing systems is efficiency rather than raw processing speed. The critical parameters to consider in designing a signal processing system are available power and communications resources. With these considerations in mind, a constant-capacity architecture is outlined
