Abstract :
Alternative network architectures supporting digital video delivery services are compared. Specifically, networks supporting residential entertainment video applications, which have unique requirements in the areas of transport, signaling, and switching are discussed. Two network architectures are described, one based on synchronous optical network (SONET) transport and the other on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) transport. These architectures are predicated on fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) technology for customer access
