  • Abstract
Reactive planning and conductor sizing interact on each other. Nevertheless, this doesn´t seem to have been paid enough attention to. This paper presents an integrated methodology of reactive planning and conductor sizing in radial distribution systems. It includes a simple iteration of reactive planning and conductor sizing, and a sensitivity-based approach. Since the methodology stays away from complicated optimization techniques and instead relies on reasonable approximations, it applies to a large-scale, multiple-section, branching feeder system with non-uniform load distribution, and can result in an approximately optimal solution quickly. Because of the practicality of its features, the proposed methodology can be a useful tool for distribution engineers. The detailed results of the designs of a typical radial feeder using the proposed methodology are also presented and discussed.
