Abstract
An expression is derived for outage probabilities in a microcellular radio system in which the desired radio signal is Rayleigh faded while an interfering signal is Rician faded. At low average signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) this Rayleigh/Rician fading environment is shown to exhibit a higher outage probability than that expected in cellular systems in which both desired and interfering signals are Rayleigh faded. However, at high average SIR the performance predicted by either model is the same
