Abstract
A phosphoric acid fuel cell energy system for telecommunications use to reduce energy costs and preserve the environment is under development. The system represents technology which could replace the conventional power feeding system in the 21st century. The background and status of the system development are addressed, and the development of this technology in the 21st century is forecast. It is noted that DC and AC interconnection technology, heat recovery technology for cooling, and fuel substitution technology must be improved to maintain high reliability and achieve high energy conversion efficiency
