Abstract :
We examine the capacity of the spectrally overlaid narrowband CDMA systems. The available wideband spectrum is divided into a number of subspectra of smaller bandwidths and each narrowband CDMA system employs spreading with a reduced processing gain relative to the conventional wideband system. We analyze the interferences from the adjacent (spectrally) narrowband CDMA systems, and find the optimal amount of spectral overlap between adjacent CDMA systems which maximizes the capacity. Then, we examine the optimal number of narrowband CDMA systems that maximizes the overall capacity when the overall bandwidth is fixed
